Wow, What a Week! June 8, 2010

Had no time to blog at the time, but I have to throw some thoughts down about our busy week just past (specifically May 31–June 6).

May 31
Memorial Day. Got to church early, then drove to Rehoboth Beach. Had a nice lunch with Mike and Marlene Quinn, did some outlet shopping, then went to the country club to attend the wedding of our next-door-neighbor’s daughter Lauren. It was a pretty day and a nice ceremony overlooking the Rehoboth Bay. Ken, Donna, and Eric were all looking pretty sharp.

June 1
Ho, hum. Just back to work after the holiday weekend.

June 2
After work, Jo Anne and I went back to campus to a service dinner, honoring employees who are celebrating retirements from and service milestones of 20 years or more (in 5-year increments) at the University of Delaware. I’ve worked here 30 years now.  The dinner and company at table were both nice. Jo Anne and I each think this will be the last such dinner until the one that recognizes my retirement.

June 3
After watching Jordan’s lax team whip up on the CSW alumni 11-6 on a hot afternoon, we all went to his lacrosse banquet. It was a fun affair at the home of one of the team captains. Speaking of captains, the big surprise was that after the awards were handed out by the coaches, they announced that Jordan will be one of the team captains next year. Nice honor!

June 4
Jo Anne picked up her brother John, who was up from Florida and had been staying with cousin Jay in N.J., and brought him to Newark. The three of us drove in to Wilmington to attend nephew Zack’s graduation from Salesianum. It was quite a tight ceremony—full of seemingly military precision—in the tradition of the school. Happy for Zack, who will be off to WVa in the fall. As a parent of a CSW kid, I’m glad that there was only one state championship banner on the Sals’ gym wall for 2010. Great subs from Capriotti’s at Joe & Ricki’s afterward.

June 5
Another big and involved day. Blue Hen 5K in the morning, as part of UD’s Forum & Reunion Weekend. Ran well in the heat and humidity. Went to the wedding of a good friend’s daughter in the early afternoon. Jordan was an usher. After relaxing at home for a couple hours, John, Jo Anne, and I drove to UD’s Center for the Arts to watch Jo Anne’s formal induction into the UD Alumni Association’s Wall of Fame. Cool ceremony. Made me, Jordan, and Jo Anne’s siblings and their families very proud. Reception followed (nice hors d’oeuvres). See UDaily story.

June 6
Mowed the lawn, did the laundry, and crashed on the couch.
